CRANKWORX INNSBRUCK WRAP UP

Crankworked.

That’s going to take some getting over. Crankworx is always epic and Innsbruck’s inaugural event was especially good. The urban/alpine city put on an amazing show and riders, exhibitors and spectators enjoyed a whole week of shred, schnapps and schnitzel. The Mons team were lucky enough to be accompanied by lensmen Jay French and Mickey Ross, who have documented the festival for your viewing pleasure.

Probably the most spectacular Whip Off venue in the world. Almost a thousand metres above the city of Innsbruck at the top of the Mutteralm Park Gondola and in front of an alpine tarn, Louis Reboul and Casey Brown got the most sideways.

A floodlit track, stunning sunset and a pumped up crowd were the backdrop to some of the tightest and most exciting racing at a Crankworx pump track we’ve seen. Caroline Buchanan and Chaney Guenney were the fastest riders on Friday night, even if they weren’t wearing lederhosen like Mitch Ropelato.

Scorching temperatures, dust and roots marked the battle of Goetzens on the other side of the mountain from Mutters. Danny Hart switched back to 27.5” wheels for his 1st place whilst Tracey Hannah finished a full 6 seconds ahead of reigning Queen of Crankworx, Jill Kintner.

The marquee event showed Crankworx really is “shaping the next dimension”. The crazy technical skill of Nicholai Rogatkin and the classic style of Brett Rheeder showcased two contrasting yet breathtaking approaches to the sport. Both riders threw down next level runs, but the judges favoured that of Rogatkin who finished with a jawdropping cashroll tailwhip. Insanity.

So, who’s up for a trip to Whistler in August?
